Did you know that October is Bully Awareness month? In order to show that we are going to stand up against bullying, the students wore orange shirts. You should have seen it! It looked like a giant sea of orangeness {if that is even a real word}!
One of the activities we did to show that we were going to stand against bullying was make a chain link. The whole school participated in this activity. Each child was given an orange strip. They had to write down a way that they were going to stand up against bullying. Here were some of the responses I read from my own class:
1. I will tell a teacher if I see bullying going on.
2. I will always try and be a good friend.
3. If I see someone being bullied, I will stand up for them.
After everyone finished their strip, I linked them like a chain. We hung the chains out in the hall.

There is also a rap song on YouTube that tells a story about a child being bullied. We all know how kids love music. I wasn’t to sure about this video at first, but my students really loved it. I surprisingly saw some of the kids get emotional about how the little boy was being treated. They were very sympathetic. It not that it is not a good video, I was just worried 7 and 8 year old would not really get it, but they did. They really enjoyed it.
I have to give a kuddos out to my counselor! She did an excellent job at organizing and getting the information out with the activities. All of these ideas came from her!
