Students love learning about sharks! There are so many shark activities for the classroom. Students love watching, reading books, drawing, researching, you name it if it has to do with sharks students will be engaged. Shark week activities for classroom are so much fun!
Recently I did a classroom transformation based on Shark Week activities for kids. Let me just say my students absolutely loved it! My students were so engaged with all the Shark Week activities, in fact that they were begging for more. If you want to see all the fun activities I did keep reading below to find out about the resources and items I used to complete this shark classroom transformation. To make it easier, I have included my affiliate links to all the products I used to set up my classroom transformation.
I did this shark classroom transformation the last month of school. We all know that the last few weeks of school can be CRAZY. I was wanting to keep my students engaged and learning. So, I thought what better way than learning all about sharks to stay busy.
Shark Activities
We spent the week using a Google Classroom shark lesson I created. You can find this resource on my website or in my TpT store. This resource is perfect for a 3rd-5th classroom. I did use it with my 2nd grade class, but my students were already experienced with Google Classroom. So, if your students are younger than third graders and experienced with Google Classroom then it would work for them too.
I would not recommend below second grade, due to the readability level of the passages and comprehension questions. The lesson involves the students researching and learning about different sharks. It includes videos, articles, comprehension passages, diagrams, and so much more. Below is just a small example of some of the slides included in this Google Classroom resource.
Each slide contains a task the student must complete before moving forward. Many of the slides contain kid friendly videos or articles that require students to read or watch. After the students have completed the reading or viewing there are several questions they must answer.
This shark resource involves the students researching and learning about a particular shark too. I chose to assign my students a specific shark to research. After receiving their assigned sharks, students were responsible for researching, finding pictures, and videos and inserting into their Google Classroom slide.

Let me just add that my students were so engaged! All of my students were hands on deck!
Classroom Transformation Ideas
In addition to the activities, I transformed my classroom into an underwater shark paradise too. Click below to watch a short video tour of my classroom!
Each morning when my students walked into the classroom they were so excited to see all the underwater decorations. Many of the items I made myself. The items were made from card stock, paper, pool noodles, boxes, tissue paper, and more.
Although many of the decorations were easy to make, I want to be honest with you. It was time consuming. So, if you decide to do this transformation just be sure to prepare in advance.
I used 3 shades of blue plastic table clothes to drape along the wall. You can find large rolls on Amazon. It took 3 rolls, 1 of each color to complete my room. I did have some left over plastic cloth on each roll, but not a huge amount. The sharks were made from black bulletin board paper. I found a shark image online and projected it onto my white board. Then, I traced the out line of the image. Last, I cut the shark image out and taped to the plastic cloth.
My favorite decoration used in this transformation was the coral reefs. I had 5 coral reefs hanging from my ceiling. They were made from boxes of different sizes. I cut a variety of colored pool noodles and made tissue paper flowers in different sizes. I hot glued the items on the box. To hang the coral reefs, I used heavy duty fishing line. The small blow up fish were bought off of Amazon. The fish came in a 12 pack.
The jelly fish were a combination of homemade and bought. The smaller jelly fish I made. It was super simple! I took paper or plastic bowls and painted them different colors. Next, I placed a clear plastic shower cap that I purchased from Everything is a Dollar on top. I then took speciality yarn found from the half off bin at Michaels and glued underneath the bowl. It was that easy!
The big jellyfish was my main purchase for this transformation. I found them on Etsy. I felt like they brought the whole transformation together. And the best part they light up!
Overall this was my favorite and best classroom transformation this year. My students were engaged and learning the whole time. If you are looking for something fun to do for Shark Week or to use at the end of the school year, this would be the perfect activity.
Remember, you don’t need to transform your classroom to keep your students engaged. They can use a meaningful resource and have just as much fun.
