Hi Jaime! I use "interactive notebooks" too but I call mine resource journals in LA and math notebooks for math instruction. Here is a link to an entry I posted a while back explaining how I use mine. 🙂 http://adventureswithmrsrossi.blogspot.com/2013/04/come-be-fly-on-my-wall.html

I checked out your post. I have a math learning log notebook that we use similar to what you are doing. We work out a problems, make charts, and glue strategies and math vocab. in it. My reading notebook I use totally different than you do. We keep just our reading vocab. and work pertaining to vocab. and our story in it. But I like how you are using yours as a more active note taking notebook. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to find out how others are using their interactive notebooks.

Until recently, I thought that Interactive Notebooks involved 2 people (making them "interactive") and that students turned theirs into the teacher and the teacher would respond to their work directly in the student notebook. It seems that the term has loosened up a bit though? I'll be following this post to see what others have to say! Great question!

Hey there! I feel like the basics behind interactive notebooks are that: 1. They are student owned (meaning students really take ownership of these notebooks and are accountable for the work inside 2. They are platforms for dialogue between the teacher and the student (I would write notes in my students' notebooks, answer questions or ask them and take grades on their work) 3. A record of their learning, just like a journal/memory book, they are a tool that can be easily used for review and refreshing ideas learned in previous weeks or months….I do not think the whole notebook should be worksheets pasted inside. Sometimes these pages are useful as resources of course, but the interactive notebook should be much more than that. I hope I answered your question!

Thanks so much! It is just that I kept hearing about it, but wasn't sure how it was any different than a regular reading, math, or journal notebook. I appreciate you stopping by!
