Five for Friday

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday!
SUBTRACTION W/REGROUPING!!!!   This is a picture of my page that I use to follow along with kiddos while teaching subtraction with regrouping.  We have been working on this skill for about two weeks now.  Most of them have it down.   We take a test today so I am a little anxious to see how they will  do.  I think most will do well.  Even when it is time to move to the next skill I will keep revisiting subtraction with regrouping since this can sometimes be a tricky little number for 7-8 year olds.   Practice makes perfect – right??

This is a picture of my youngest helping my mom cook New Year’s Day lunch!!!   She loves to help cook.  She insisted on wearing an apron just like her Memaw.  They were making fried chicken – yum!

We finished up our MLK writings yesterday.  I think they turned out really well.  My class does a great job of getting their ideas and thoughts down in complete sentences.   Now if I could just get their proofreading skills up to par!!!   This cute writing craftivity and with other matching printables can be found in my TpT shop!!!
This week was winter benchmark time for DIBELS.   We help administer DIBELS at our school, but the parish also brings in outside administrators to help as well.   After hearing the same story for what felt like the 100th time, I was so bored.  I went back to my class and spoke to them again about the importance of reading with expression.  Kids are really bad about reading with a  monotone.  I think overall our school scores were about average of where they should be.  We defenitly could work on our retell a little more, especially capturing the main idea of a passage.  What type of benchmark testing does your school use?   Leave me a comment, I would love to hear from you.
Here is hoping that everyone has a great weekend and a healthy one at that.  This past week my school has had what seems like every viral or bacterial infection roll through it.  Not to mention the flu is sweeping through our school and city like crazy.  I am praying that my family and I don’t get the flu this year.  It seems like a really nasty strain this year!   Our local news reported that the hospitals were overflowing with flu patients.  I am constantly reminding my girls to wash their hands.  I have also noticed that I have been washing and using Germ X  a little more than normal in my class too.
That about wraps it up for me!!   Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.   I {heart} comments and followers!!!!

    Hi,
Loved the picture of your little one. Too cute. I hated teaching that last year. It was a tough one. I'm back in first so no regrouping. We use Discovery Education Tests for our district. Happy Friday.

I had to laugh when I read that your class does a great job of getting their ideas down in complete sentences…I don't know what happened to my students' writing skills over break, but all I got this week was and, and, and!

This is how many students act in 2026. Teachers will identify with every single one of the students I portray here. Funny teacher video.

So what is this you might ask? It is my last minute version of a craft for Ground Hogโ€™s Day. I canโ€™t be the only one who decides the day of to do a craft and wing it, right? It looks more like a bear๐Ÿคฃbut it was suppose to be a groundhog with facts about Ground Hogโ€™s Day. No directions required just pull construction paper and glue. Youโ€™re welcome!๐Ÿ˜‰ ... One of my most favorite boards in my classroom is this ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป bulletin board right here! This is how it looks at the beginning of each year. As the year progresses I hang student art work and writings up. At the end of the year I take the work off and it is in order, neat and tidy, and students now have a portfolio of their best 2nd grade work. The bright folders I use to match my classroom theme are cut in half and the sign is just typed up in PowerPoint.

Here is a link to the bright file folders I used on this board (I use the extra folders to keep stuff stored in my filing cabinet): amzn.to/4mS2GhY
