It is the most wonderful time of the year, but at the same time the most hectic too! I have a few resources and tricks up my sleeve to share with you for the best Christmas activities for your classroom. These Christmas activities will help keep your classroom running smoother, your students engaged and learning, but enjoying holiday activities at the same time.
Christmas Literacy Center Ideas
I currently have small group/centers going during our ELA block. One of my favorite resources to use during the holiday season is my Christmas Themed literacy centers. It includes reading activities for a variety of skills. Just a few of the skills covered are fact and opinion, plurals, cause and effect, ABC sort, verbs and adjectives, and two writing prompts. This resource is perfect for reading centers for 2nd grade. It would work well with reading centers for 3rd grade too!
My favorite reading center activity to use are the cause and effect cards. Cause and effect can be a tricky reading skill. I like that students are using ideas or thoughts they are familiar with to help match up cause and effect statements. After matching they have to write their answers on a recording sheet. There are 12 sets of matching cards in all.
Christmas Book Reports
Another reading activity I love for my students to complete is writing a book report on their favorite Christmas or holiday book. If you would prefer, you don’t have to limit yourself to a Christmas book. Students can write about any of their favorite books. The Christmas Book Report is a template set up in such a way it can be easily implemented as a class or as a at home activity.
I know what your thinking all of these resources are for ELA/Reading, what about the other subjects!?! Well, I have you covered!
Christmas STEM Challenges
One of my absolute favorite things to do during the holiday season is STEM challenges! I never can to get enough! My STEM resource has four different activities: build a Christmas tree, design and build a snowball shooter, flying reindeer, and design and build Santa’s sleigh. My personal favorite STEM challenge is the flying reindeer. The look on my students’ faces when the reindeer slides down the zip line is the best! All of the activities are perfect STEM challenges for 2nd and 3rd grade!
And because I love doing STEM challenges during the holiday season, I have a FREEBIE for you! Your students will love the STEM challenge of cup stacking. However, this is not your average cup stacking challenge. Students have to stack the cups into a shape of a Christmas tree.
Christmas Math Worksheets
The next resource I am recommending is all about Math. If you are in need of a Christmas math worksheets for 3rd grade or 4th grade then I have you covered. There are over 20 math printables with a wide variety of skills covered: fractions, multiplication with 2-digit numbers, prime factorization, division, decimals, and much more! This resource is perfect for upper elementary.
I hope you can find something useful to help make your Christmas in the classroom life a little easier during this hectic holiday season! I would love to hear from you. What type of activities do you do with your class during the Christmas season? Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a peek!
