Did you know all month long teachers everywhere celebrate D.E.A.R.? D.E.A.R stands for “Drop Everything and Read”! It was all started by one of my all time favorite children’s author Beverly Clearly. I am sure many of you love reading her books too! How could you not relate love Ramona Quimby???
D.E.A.R was in the Ramona Quimby, Age 8 book. Do you remember?? This is what Ramona’s teacher basically called silent reading time. Well guess what, all month long you can find fun activities to do with your class to incorporate D.E.A.R at the Drop Everything and Read website!!!
Last year {about this time} my class and I started reading Ramona Quimby, Age 8. I must admit they loved the book! Plus is was the first time several of the kids had read a chapter book. You know how it goes in second grade, some kids are full blown into chapter books and some are not too sure about them yet! We read this book as a class and did all activities together! The kids loved it! At the end of the book we watched the movie, Ramona and Beezus. {Disclaimer – the movie puts several elements from different books together!} This didn’t bother the kiddos though, they loved the movie just the same. I am getting ready to start this book again with my class this year too. If you are looking for a good pack to go with Ramona Quimby, Age 8, I have one in my TpT shop! As a matter of fact, it has been a big seller these past few weeks. It is geared for second grade and up. I have all the questions, vocabulary, and answer key for each chapter. There are a few writing crafts too! Be sure to stop by and check it out!
I love to hear how you are going to Drop Everything and Read this month, please share any fun ideas!!!
