Out with the Old in with the New & Sunday Scoop

I must warn you this blog post is not all teaching related, but then again I have the title “Teaching Tidbits and More”.  So this post will have to do with the “more” part of my life.  I have been up to my eyeballs in gray paint.  Who knew there were literally so many choices?? I have decided I want to repaint my kitchen a gray tone.  The only problem is that we have stained cabinets and beige/cream colored back splash.  Plus our granite has more gold and cream tones than gray.  So without basically redoing my entire kitchen, I have been on mad search for the perfect gray tone color.  I have now learned there is such a thing called, “greige”.  Which basically means gray and beige tones mixed.  I think I have it narrowed down to two gray tone colors that will work and both are by Benjamin Moore Paints.  The first is called Bennington Gray {the color at the top} and the second is called Granite Beige {the one under}.  They are actually in the same family and they both give off the appearance of a gray tone without being to gray.  So what do you think??

We will also be putting in a new floor in our kitchen.  We currently have stained concrete in the kitchen and we are switching to tile.  I have decided on a tile that can go with the paint and the counters.   This is hard stuff I tell you!!  It was easier when we built the house 6 years ago because we were starting from scratch.  I have found it harder now to change because I am trying to coordinate with what I already have.  Hopefully this project will be under way by next week.
In other news we also bought a new mattress, but not just any mattress, a Sleep Number mattress.  It really sounded great {and felt wonderful testing it out at the store}, but now that it is here it so strange having a bed that moves up and down.  Don’t get me wrong it is very comfortable, but I just can’t get past my husband sleeping at a higher elevation {I know โ€ฆ I make it sound like he is on a mountain top} than me.  I think it takes major getting use to.  The hubs really likes it, because it like being able to sleep with the head adjusted at an incline.  I sleep with it totally flat.  Every night I keep telling him “lower your side down, your too high up”, but he is convince he sleeping better.  Meanwhile I can’t sleep because we are not leveled {silly I know}.  I guess if it is soft and comfortable, what does it matter if everyone is level or not.  Does anyone else have one of these beds?  Was it so weird to you at first too?  I think when you have slept on something else for so long, it hard to switch over.
{This is my two kiddos demonstrating how the bed works}
Now on to a little teachery stuff.  This past week I was able to get my kids lined out with their pumpkin reports.  I can’t wait to see what they start bringing in.   Last year my class was so creative.   The template comes from my Pumpkin  Book Reports.  The kids pick their favorite book, write a report, then decorate a pumpkin.  We always display them in the library.  I will share more pictures when they start coming in.
{This is an example from last year}!
We have also been getting ready for our Fall Carnival that is coming up this week.  My team and I were trying to come up with some new games or booth ideas {tired of the same ole’ thing}.  So we found this cute fortune teller wheel in Oriental Trading.  One of us is going to dress as a gypsy and play fortune teller.   We hope it is a hit this year!!
For my last but not least, Sunday Scoop.  I am linking up with Teaching Trio for their weekly, Sunday Scoop.
Well that about wraps it up for me.  Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!  I {heart} comments and followers!

    I can't imagine the struggle of picking paint colors! I really like the lighter of the two colors, if I had to choose just one. I also LOVE your pumpkin book reports! So cute!

This is how many students act in 2026. Teachers will identify with every single one of the students I portray here. Funny teacher video.

So what is this you might ask? It is my last minute version of a craft for Ground Hogโ€™s Day. I canโ€™t be the only one who decides the day of to do a craft and wing it, right? It looks more like a bear๐Ÿคฃbut it was suppose to be a groundhog with facts about Ground Hogโ€™s Day. No directions required just pull construction paper and glue. Youโ€™re welcome!๐Ÿ˜‰ ... One of my most favorite boards in my classroom is this ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป bulletin board right here! This is how it looks at the beginning of each year. As the year progresses I hang student art work and writings up. At the end of the year I take the work off and it is in order, neat and tidy, and students now have a portfolio of their best 2nd grade work. The bright folders I use to match my classroom theme are cut in half and the sign is just typed up in PowerPoint.

Here is a link to the bright file folders I used on this board (I use the extra folders to keep stuff stored in my filing cabinet): amzn.to/4mS2GhY
