Teacher Week {Taming The Wild}

I am linking up with Blog Hoppin’ for their Teacher Week.  I love the title of this link, Taming The Wild.  Because we all know that sometimes teaching can be like working in a jungle!
For classroom management my school is implementing whole brain teaching this year.  This is to be implemented throughout the whole school.  Although I did not attend the workshop this summer a few of my comrades did.  Two days before school started they gave us their own little in service on whole brain teaching.  Us newbies at whole brain will mostly be implementing the behavior portion of this year and a few of the commands.  We still get to keep our colored behavior chart, but now they kids are working toward a higher goal.
Below is what the positive reinforcement looks like.  I purchased this from a TpT shop.   They all start at beginner level with a white star.  When I catch them doing something good they get a tally mark on their star.  After 10 tally marks then they move up to Learner.  They then receive a green star.  I will also give them a treasure chest prize when they move up.  I don’t know if this is part of whole brain teaching, but I have a ton of treasure chest prizes I need to unload this year.  After they receive another 10 tallies then they move up to Team Leaders.  This keeps going until they reach Genius.   You have to spread it out over a period of time.  You don’t want to  reach Genius in a week or two time frame.
Below is a list of the 5 classroom rules for whole brain teaching!   On a different note {if you have read past post, you will know what I am talking about} we finally get to hang a few things on our walls.  I was so excited because before we were not allowed to hang on the wall.   I hopeful next year maybe I can get a word wall going.  I am so limited to bulletin board space, I didn’t have room to put a word wall up.

On my own I also give out tickets for good behavior or random acts of kindness.  This is something I have always done since I started teaching.  At the end of the day I draw about 5 or 6 tickets for a small prize such as a piece of candy or a pencil.  I have found that this trick motivates the kids, because they never know when they might get a ticket.
So there it is folks a quick detail to how we are managing behavior this year at my school.  I can’t wait to read how you tame the wild.  As always thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.   On a different note don’t forget to enter my 100 follower giveaway.  It ends tomorrow night.

    At which store did you find your star positive reinforcement? I love that!

    I have heard so much about Whole Brain teaching. If I ever have the opportunity to go to an in-service for it I will definitely jump on it!

    It is such a shame that you couldn't post on your walls until now. Environmental print is so important and that can be difficult when you're limited solely to a few bulletin boards. Maybe you could research different ways to attach materials safely to the wall and suggest to your administrator that you try them out to see what works!

    P.S. Thanks for following my blog. I returned the favor! 🙂

      I think she is starting to ease up on the hanging up things. I notice more and more people hanging on the wall. We are in a new building, I think she just doesn't want the new wall to get messed up! Thanks for stopping by!

    I'm new the the whole….Whole Brain Teaching concept (haha) but I've seen that a few other teachers incorporate it into their classroom. The star behavior management tool looks amazing and I think it's a fun idea that can keep kids on track. Thanks so much for sharing it!

This is how many students act in 2026. Teachers will identify with every single one of the students I portray here. Funny teacher video.

So what is this you might ask? It is my last minute version of a craft for Ground Hog’s Day. I can’t be the only one who decides the day of to do a craft and wing it, right? It looks more like a bear🤣but it was suppose to be a groundhog with facts about Ground Hog’s Day. No directions required just pull construction paper and glue. You’re welcome!😉 ... See MoreSee Less

One of my most favorite boards in my classroom is this 👇🏻 bulletin board right here! This is how it looks at the beginning of each year. As the year progresses I hang student art work and writings up. At the end of the year I take the work off and it is in order, neat and tidy, and students now have a portfolio of their best 2nd grade work. The bright folders I use to match my classroom theme are cut in half and the sign is just typed up in PowerPoint.

Here is a link to the bright file folders I used on this board (I use the extra folders to keep stuff stored in my filing cabinet): amzn.to/4mS2GhY
