Five for Friday

I am back for a Five for Friday.  This is my first one in about a month.  I kinda, sorta been on a small blogging hiatus.  I haven’t done it on purpose, but my family and I have been so crazy busy lately.  It has been a little hard to fit it all in.  But with spring and summer just around the corner, here is hoping to better blogging organization.
The first thing I am super excited about is that after today Spring Break officially starts for me.   It is a much needed break.   This past week felt like it has just dragged on and on.  I know all  the kiddos are excited too.  The hubs and I had talked about traveling over our spring break somewhere to the mountains {we were thinking Tennessee}, but I think we have kinda ruled that out now.  So at this point it just looks like lazy days around the house.  You never know though,  we have been known to pack it up at last minute and do something.
I know this picture is long over due, but I just had to share with you our Read Across America Day.   Our kiddos came dressed all in black.  And guess what, the rest of the costume is made at school.  That is right:  that is a hand drawn hat by me that he kids color and bow tie that one of the other teacher had drawn out.  The students cut it out and we pin it to their shirts.  Then we paint their faces up like a cat and they are good to go.  The rest of their day is spent rotating reading fun Dr. Seuss books and completing fun activities.
We are currently studying money right now!!  My kids are doing an awesome job at counting coins.   On Monday we played a money counting game.  My students love to play math games.
As I mentioned in an earlier blog post my daughter did make it to the regional social studies fair.  So, we loaded up our project with high hopes, but no such luck.  Although she did not place I was still proud of all her hard work.   Plus we were able to spend the day together with a little one on one time.   And how do you fix a nine year old who is bummed out about not winning, you stop for ice-cream on the way home.
For my number five, I thought I would share this picture I took of my two kiddos in our backyard way  down by the bayou.  I had to get a really great picture of the two them for their upcoming dance recital program book.  In the program book most parents buy a small picture space and write a sweet message to their dancer.  So I decided to take the picture myself.  I used my really good camera to capture the shot.  I think it turned out fairly decent for an amateur.  Believe it or not it was really chilly on this day, but they wanted to wear their new spring dresses for the photo.  So they decided to suffer through it {Oh, the joys of girl stuff}!!!
Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!!!   If any of you are also starting your spring break I would love to hear how you plan on spending you time!!!  I {heart} comments and followers!!!

So what is this you might ask? It is my last minute version of a craft for Ground Hogโ€™s Day. I canโ€™t be the only one who decides the day of to do a craft and wing it, right? It looks more like a bear๐Ÿคฃbut it was suppose to be a groundhog with facts about Ground Hogโ€™s Day. No directions required just pull construction paper and glue. Youโ€™re welcome!๐Ÿ˜‰ ... One of my most favorite boards in my classroom is this ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป bulletin board right here! This is how it looks at the beginning of each year. As the year progresses I hang student art work and writings up. At the end of the year I take the work off and it is in order, neat and tidy, and students now have a portfolio of their best 2nd grade work. The bright folders I use to match my classroom theme are cut in half and the sign is just typed up in PowerPoint.

Here is a link to the bright file folders I used on this board (I use the extra folders to keep stuff stored in my filing cabinet): amzn.to/4mS2GhY
